Wayne H. McDonald is the fifth oldest of eight children born to the late Bishop William H. Sr. and Mother Faye McDonald. His father served as the Prelate of the Kansas East Ecclesiastical Jurisdiction Church of God in Christ for over 29 years. Bishop McDonald also served as the National Assistant Secretary for the Board of Bishop. Brother McDonald moved to Denver, Colorado in 1963 where he joined Holy Trinity Church of God in Christ, under the late Bishop C.E. Morgan who served as National Treasure, and later Pastor Samuel Feaster. He is a veteran of the United States Army, he served as a Combat Medic during the Vietnam War. During his tenure in the U.S. Army, he was severely wounded in combat and suffered life-threatening injuries as he tried to save the lives of his fellow soldiers. Through God’s grace and mercy, he made a full recovery after being in and out of the hospital for 16 months. He attributes the 91st Psalm (verse 7) as his compelling source of encouragement while on the battlefield and during his recovery. He was honorably discharged and was awarded the Purple Heart. After recovering from his injuries, he attended Metro State College where he decided to major in Marketing. He would go on to work for Montgomery Wards as a Buyer. After 20 years of dedicated service, he retired. In 1967, he married Ms. Janice Morgan, who’s the daughter of the late Supervisor Ruth Robinson of the Montana Jurisdiction Church of God in Christ. Supervisor Robinson was a graduate of Saint Junior College. Mother Robinson was very faithful to the Church and served in several different capacities such as: State YPWW Chair lady for 30 years; National Hospitality President; in the National Youth Department under the late Bishop O.T. Jones and Bishop C.D. Owens. Lady McDonald an Evangelist Missionary has served the Colorado Jurisdiction as the state YWCC President for 20 years; and 2nd Vice President of the National YWCC for 20 years; and presently serves as Vice President. On February 14, 1983 Elder McDonald was appointed as Pastor of Odom Temple Church of God in Christ by the late Bishop J. A. Blake. He has been pastoring this fine congregation for over 37 years. The church was later renamed to “Odom Memorial” in memory of the late Bishop W.B. Odom who also served the National Church as Treasure. The motivating force as Pastor, was to “Rebuild the walls of Odom” both naturally and spiritually. Within six years two mortgages were paid off and the church was completely renovated and furnished. Pastor McDonald has been a dedicated servant in the church. He has served locally as Assistant Sunday School Superintendent and Associate Minister. On the district and State level, has held the office of District Sunday School superintendent for which he received the Superintendent of the Year Award. He was Chairman of District Sunday School Superintendents, State Sunday School Public Relation President. Under the leadership of the late Bishop L.A. Jordan, he was appointed State Public Relations chairman and a member of the State Executive Board. In 1988, Bishop F.E. Johnson appointed Pastor McDonald Vice-Chairman of the State Pastors and Elders Council. He later was elevated to Chairman. Upon the request of Supt. H. F. Kelly, he assumed the role of Asst. District Superintendent for the Rocky Mountain District. When Supt. Kelly's health would not allow him to lead the district Pastor McDonald was appointed February 14, 2004 as District Superintendent. There are many ministries of the Odom Memorial Church of God in Christ that have proven to be remarkably successful. The W.H. McDonald Scholarship fund was established in 1995. Ever since this scholarship fund was created, graduating high school seniors have been awarded $500 for higher education. To date more than 100 scholarships have been awarded. Superintendent McDonald is the organizer and founder of the Odom Memorial Community Drug Bust Ministry, a spiritual support group for people struggling and/or recovering from various addictions. The Drug Bust Ministry expanded to a live radio broadcast in 2007 Odom Memorial started a live broadcast called “The Yes Lord Ministry” and aired weekly on 1220 KLDC AM for 17 years. Because of the tremendous impact other outreach ministries have evolved from the Drug Bust Ministry. This ministry has also inspired the opening of the Drug Bust Counseling Center. At the 2009 International Women’s Convention of the Church of God in Christ held in Denver, Colorado the Drug Bust Ministry was the recipient of $5000 to help further support community efforts. The outreach includes a radio broadcast that can be heard every Saturday. Monthly the Drug Bust feeding program services 500 - 600 homeless people as well as St. Martins Senior Citizen Home. The Lord blessed and expanded this ministry, and the Drug Bust West was organized in Lakewood Colorado. Three times monthly, Ministers & Missionaries conduct services at the Denver Rescue Mission. Superintendent McDonald has led the Cole community in obtaining a Streetscape grant, in the amount of $85,000, which assisted the neighborhood revitalization effort and removed slum and blight form the community. Superintendent McDonald and the Odom Memorial church has made a significant impact in the local community and the surrounding Denver metropolitan area. During the 43rd Annual Colorado Gospel Music Academy & Hall of Fame, Superintendent McDonald was awarded Pastor of the Year. In the jurisdiction, he has served as the Public Relations Chairman, the Chairman of the Pastor and Elders Council (17 years), Chief Operating Officer, and is currently serving as 4th Administrative Assistant. Superintendent and Lady McDonald are the proud parents of five adult children, Elder Adolph (Claudine), Deacon Wayne A. (Cheryl), Evang. Missionary Shannon (Elder Edward Venerable Jr.), Shawn (JuNae’) and Tameka. They are the immensely proud grandparents of 19 grandchildren and four great grandchildren. In June 2020, under the leadership of Bishop Brandon B. Porter, General Board Member and Interim Jurisdictional Prelate of Colorado held a polling for the pastors of the Colorado Jurisdiction to decide who they would like to see lead the Jurisdiction. After the polling, with the support of the General Board and Bishop J. Drew Sheard, Presiding Bishop and Chief Apostle, Superintendent McDonald was named the Jurisdictional Bishop for the Colorado Ecclesiastical Jurisdiction Church of God in Christ. Bishop W.H. McDonald was consecrated to the office of the Bishopric on June 23, 2021 in Memphis, Tennessee. Bishop W.H. McDonald has proven to be a passionate leader. He is a firm believer that his greatest mandate is the winning of lost souls to Christ and integrating them into the Body of Christ to be built up in their most holy faith. His motto: “Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that when he shall appear, we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is.” I John 3:2 |
